What's going on in class?

Given what I've observed in the last two days the importance of listening message has gotten through! We learn from
each other so we need to actively listen not onlyto teachers but to our classmates.
We have discovered that the /sh/ sound can be spelled in many different ways and that spelling in the English language is crazy. The more we encounter these words the better able we'll be to remember how to spell them.
Did you know that some bugs taste like apples and that some cultures put cooked bugs in their foods? We listened to a story about a girl named, Beetle McCrady who dared herself to eat some cooked bugs. She did! We will have our own cookies this afternoon to celebrate a full penny jar (ask your child about it) and the fact that we earned THE FIRST FALCON TAIL FEATHER IN THE SCHOOL! I wonder if our cookies will have cooked bugs in them.
We will also be visited by a tarantula this afternoon! Yes, that's right. A real, live tarantula. I wonder what features a tarantula has to help it survive, (get food, fend off prey, make a home for itself).
In math we are working on clearly explaining the difference between a given number and 10 more/less than that number. we are demonstrating this too. It's the explaining part that's hard. We're also working with the greater than, less than, and equal to signs and puzzle pieces of a hundreds chart.
